Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
Our partnership with The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
We are proud supporters of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, a charity we adore. They are best known for the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned elephants and rhinos in Kenya, helping these orphans back to the wild where they can begin families of their own. TEA LAB'S ORPHANED ELEPHANT ADOPTION
In 2019, Tea Lab adopted a baby elephant in the care of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya. Named Enkesha this little calf was only a year old when she was rescued, after she was sighted with a wire snare cutting deep into her trunk and threatening her survival. She was brought to the SWT’s Nursery in Nairobi for lifesaving treatment. Their pioneering Orphans' Project rescues milk-dependent orphan baby elephants and other wildlife, providing them with a safe haven and a nurturing family, hand-raising them in such a way that they can return to the wild when grown.
Today, she is healed and unrecognisable from the calf they rescued, save for a small hole in her trunk. She's adapted to this without fuss and is growing up at the Trust’s Umani Springs Reintegration Unit, which caters for vulnerable orphans in need of a gentler environment. Thankfully, her injury does not impact her ability to eat or drink in any way, in fact she's one of the greediest elephants in the Umani herd, always busy browsing on the lush vegetation offered in this protected forest area. In time, Enkesha will reclaim her place in the wild and we are proud to help support this journey by joining the SWT’s Adoption Program. Tea Lab’s ethos of giving back led us to support the Trust further through a partnership, donating 10% of proceeds from sales of our African Tea Range. By purchasing any teas within this range, you will be helping us give back to Africa’s wildlife by supporting the vital work of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
